Foster City is described by many as a unique city. Living here, you wouldn’t suspect that it’s built on a landfill. It is located just north of Silicon Valley and San Francisco is just a short train ride away. It has over 16 miles of lagoon canals and plenty of water activities. It’s beautiful, clean, well-maintained, and family-friendly.

During a visit, it’s hard not to get the feeling that this is a city that truly cares about family, community, and youth development. People generally move to Foster City to either start a family (and the families are central to the community) or work for the many Silicon Valley companies.

Activities

The sheer number of canals provides ample opportunity for water activities. Foster City is known for its waterslides and water-based activities such as paddle boarding, windsurfing, and kayaking. A common sight here is residents going on their electric boats.

Recreation Center and Park

Every community needs a place where they can get together. For Foster City residents, it’s The William E. Walker Recreation Center. It’s a space that features a stunning view of the lagoon. The recreation center has a banquet hall, a summer camp and other activities, and learning classes. The community also has a 20-acre recreational park named after Congressman Leo J. Ryan. It features an amphitheater and a boardwalk. The park is the site of many national celebrations such as the Fourth of July.

Youth Hangouts

Foster City’s skatepark is a popular hangout for the younger residents. Don’t let it intimidate you, the skatepark welcomes skateboarders of all levels, from beginners to advanced skaters. If your child is not into skateboarding, there’s The Vibe — a supervised hangout for teenagers. By supervised, meaning teens have to register to avail of the facilities such as television, video games, and game tables such as ping-pong tables, Foosball, and more. They are kept safe and sound by managers and coordinators.

Great Education

Foster City has an award-winning public school system. The elementary schools are great: Foster City Elementary School, Brewer Island Elementary School, and Audubon Elementary School. For middle school and high school, there are schools outside Foster City but still nearby.

CityFest

Every year, Foster City residents and visitors celebrate CityFest, the largest arts and wine festival in the city. Over a hundred vendors participate in the festival and it draws in over a thousand people with many coming in from all over.

After a long day at work in any nearby city, you just want to sit and relax. Peace and quiet are what Foster City locals have in abundance. Housing-wise, it’s one of the best decisions you can make to buy a high-value home in a quiet and unassuming neighborhood.
